The development of the chair orientated the domestic Chinese interior from the horizontal orientation of a mat based culture like Japan to a more vertical one. The resulting development of cabinets and coffers are as useful to us today as they were when they were made, and come in a wide variety of sizes from massive and dramatic compound cabinets, perfect as statement pieces in a drawing room or dining room to smaller low cabinets suitable for bedsides and everything in-between.
